January 22, 2013The Visual Evolution of Dancehall Culture in Toronto Photographic Exhibition
 

TORONTO - On February 1, 2013, Lesia Bailey, Photojournalist, Motivator and Advocate mounts her second photo exhibition aptly named "The Visual Evolution of Dancehall Culture in Toronto". This exhibition is featured as part of TD Then & Now 2013 Black History Month Series.

Why: To expose the good, bad and ugly of a often maligned and misunderstood music that originated with marginalized people of Jamaica, and spread across the
world to large urban areas like Toronto. This is an important and purposeful display of a vibrant and meaningful aspect of pop culture, called Dancehall.
Who should attend: Everyone and anyone who is interested in art, culture and music, and wants to support a woman who has been toiling for years in an often male dominated culture.
 

When: The "Visual Evolution of Dancehall Culture within Toronto" the exhibit runs from February 1st to 16th, 2013.

About Lesia Bailey:
Lesia Bailey is a Photojournalist who has been working perfecting her craft for over 22 years. She has traveled throughout North America and the Caribbean, covering
dancehall events and has been published in major dailies like Mic Check Magazine, It's Your Time Magazine, Reggaemania, Uprising International, SPLASH, Caribbean
Camera Newspaper. Her work has also been featured in other mainstream publications like: The Toronto Sun, The Jamaica Gleaner, Star, Canada Extra, Hardcore
Newspaper and many others.

This exhibition of thirty 16" X 20" photo's and a multimedia video presentation with over 300 still images, is a compelling story of the evolution and "resiliency " of dancehall culture with an emphasis on the Canadian
vibrancy. It is a must see. Lesia is also an advocate for marginalized people and her online conversation that Ms. Bailey has developed to assist survivors of abuse in the
Caribbean community.
